  Ben Steppel
In Memory of Ben Steppel, who gave so much to all sport in Sussex

Introduction

Welcome to Sussex County FC. If you are a first time visitor to the site and/or not too familiar with Non League football in Sussex, you may be wondering what this site is all about.

The legendary David Bauckham ran the Nomad Online website of which this site owes a lot of the content. Due to his commitments he was no longer able to host this site and so to continue the legacy and hopefully expand on it, I agreed to host it on my servers under the new banner of Sussex County FC .

The website
Although this is the first change of banner for the essential site, you could really call it Mark 4 of the original Nomad site. Mark 1 of Nomad Online was originally launched in 2000, and then updated in 2003 and again in 2007 which became gave the site it's new look which this site gains lots of its style. Mark 3 had considerably more photographs of the grounds in the Directory and it would not be morally right if I didn't continue to thank the people who helped David along the way with his Nomad site. Hopefully these acknowledgements will allow me to continue to display the content with the relevant copyrights.

First of all David, I (and anyone who loves football grounds) owes an enormous debt of gratitude to Bob Lilliman, arguably the first person to really devote himself to photographng grounds from the 1970s onwards. Thanks to Bob we now have a priceless visual record of football grounds across the UK, many that are no more. Bob has generously allowed access to his complete Sussex archive and it is fascinating to see how the county's grounds have changed over the years. Many of these photographs have never been published anywhere else and we also grateful to Mike Floate of 'Football Grounds Frenzy', and Vince Taylor of 'Groundtastic' magazine who tirelessly scanned Bob's original slides. In additon we must thank Colin Peel, another respected figure in the genre of football grounds photography who has also granted access to photographs of Sussex grounds in his enormous collection.

Finally we should thank two individuals whose commitment to their respective websites is quite astonishing, and without which we (and many others I suspect) would be quite lost: Richard Rundle (Football Club History Database), and the sadly late Tony Kempster's  eponymous site.

So, regardless of whether you are a supporter, player or official of a Sussex football club; a casual or ardent 'hopper' looking for a few more clubs to tick off your list; or merely just dropping in for a look around, I hope you enjoy the site.
